We have spent just one night at the rural hotel “Cuevas del Tío Tobas”. My impression is very good, it is a lovely place. It is in an ideal place, in wild nature, close to Sierra Nevada. The caves are fine, very cosy and decorated according to the rustic style of the region. They have a fireplace, a kitchen and a bathroom, besides a little living room and the bedroom. The silence and peace of the place are unique, in wild nature, surrounded by tress and the nature itself. At night there is a particular silence, if you get out the cave, owls and other animals wandering around can be heard. In July there was a magnificent weather in the area, both day and night. Inside the cave the temperature is optimal, you need to sleep with a blanket on, not because it’s cold, it’s a different feeling, an experience that I recommend to everyone.

My stay in the caves has been very satisfactory, but the best thing of the place is the fabulous attention we have received from the receptionist. She’s really nice and helpful, she treated us very kindly. The hotel presented us with a welcoming drink. Breakfast is great, included in the bedroom price. All of it served by the very nice receptionist from the check-in. My congratulations to this person for doing her job so well.

The fireplace was very nice, it had been years since I hadn’t got to enjoy one. The silence inside the cave is unbelievable, you can sleep wonderfully. The staff were very kind all the time.

Situado muy cerca de Guadix, conocido por su barrio de cuevas, las habitaciones de este hotel son recreaciones de este tipo de viviendas, instalado aprovechando las cuevas existentes. Las habitaciones, situadas a pie de calle, son enormes, con salón comedor, un dormitorio con una cama inmensa y baño muy amplio. Todo decorado en estilo rústico. El recinto cuenta con una pequeña piscina. El personal es muy amable. En el restaurante se come bien.

Everything. The restaurant, very well run by really kind, attentive professionals, offers a local gastronomy of an excellent quality.

Located very close to Guadix, known by its neighbourhood of caves, the rooms in this hotel are recreations of this kind of houses, which has been built by using the caves themselves. The rooms, located at street level, are huge and have a living-dining room, a bedroom with a king-size bed and really large bathroom. Everything is rural-style decorated. The resort has a small pool. The staff are very nice. You can eat very decently at the restaurant.

We have stayed in a one-room cave for two nights, the cave is beautiful and has everything, it’s relaxing, comfortable, the environment is beautiful with the giant Sierra Nevada behind, spectacular, the resort is very well maintained, clean and tidy, the attention is perfect, the kindness from the staff is outstanding, we treated Mari Carmen, such a lovely, nice person, we had dinner in the restaurant one night and everything was delicious.

Nosotros estuvimos alojados en una cueva de dos habitaciones y realmente nos encantó. La temperatura media es de 18ºC, y dispones de todas las comodidades: salón con chimenea, cocina y cuarto de baño en un estilo rústico.
Yo recomendaría mi experiencia personal de observar en silencio durante un buen rato las estrellas, estirado en la colina del techo de la cueva. Es una sensación espectacular y única.

Hemos pasado una sola noche en el hotel rural «Cuevas del tio Tobas». Mi opinión es muy buena, es un lugar muy bonito. Está situado en un lugar ideal, en plena naturaleza, cerca de Sierra Nevada. Las cuevas están bien, muy acogedoras y decoradas al estilo rústico de la zona. Tienen chimenea, cocina y cuarto de baño, además del saloncito y el dormitorio.
El silencio y la tranquilidad del lugar son únicas, en plena naturaleza, rodeada de árboles y naturaleza. Por la noche hay un silencio especial, si sales a la puerta de la cueva se pueden oir lechuzas y otros animales que rondan por allí cerca. En julio hacía un tiempo magnifico en la zona, tanto de noche como de día. Dentro de la cueva hay una temperatura óptima, se duerme con mantas pero no es que haga frío, es una sensación diferente, una experiencia que recomiendo a todos. Mi estancia en las cuevas ha sido muy satisfactoria pero lo mejor del lugar es la buenísima atención que hemos recibido por parte de la chica de recepción. Es una persona super-agradable y atenta, nos trató de forma muy agradable. El hotel nos obsequió con una bebida de bienvenida. El desayuno es genial, incluido en el precio de la habitación. Todo ello servido por la misma recepcionista amable del día de llegada. Mis felicitaciones a esa persona por hacer tan bien su trabajo.

Estuvimos tres noches y cuatro días en las casas cuevas del Tío Tobas. La casa asignada estuvo a la altura de las pretensiones (amplia, cómoda y con un baño grande y cómodo, lo que fue cómodo para bañar a las niñas). La atención en recepción fue magnífica y no menos la atención en el restaurante. Éste no sólo ofrecía unos platos buenísimos y bien servidos, sino también un trato cercano y profesional. Si fuera nuevamente por la zona ni me lo pensaría.

Fui con mi pareja y nos dieron una cueva más grande, por lo que nos quedamos sorprendidos y encantados. 
Te dan dos cajas de leña con la cual tuvimos de sobra para las dos noches que nos quedamos, y sin ruidos y todo equipado, cocina completa, baño completo… y la habitación principal una maravilla.
Hay caminos para hacer, recomendado un sendero llamado “ruta de las ermitas”.

We stayed the weekend and besides being beautiful, they are really comfortable! You can find all sorts of facilities and they’re wonderful to spend a few days in the countryside (or any kind of plan). There’s a fully equipped kitchen, so you can go for bringing your own food, although my advise is eating at Tío Tobas Restaurant, that is just next door and everything is delicious! The personal treatment is just amazing.

Nos hemos alojado dos noches en una cueva de un dormitorio, la cueva es preciosa tiene de todo, relajante, cómoda, el entorno precioso con la gigante Sierra Nevada detrás, espectacular, el complejo esta muy cuidado, limpio y coqueto, la atención es perfecta, la simpatía del personal sobresaliente, nosotros tratamos con Mari Carmen una persona encantadora y simpática, cenamos una noche en el restaurante y todo buenísimo.

The direct contact with nature, the tranquillity in the air and everything is just close to the highway. We could bring our dog with us and for free, cool! The staff were more than lovely, always attentive and helping us with anything they could. We stayed in a studio, with everything we needed. We will repeat as soon as we can make it, because it’s really worth it.

We had another place in mind, but we stopped to have lunch and decided to stay. Never had we been inside a cave and it was a wonderful discovery. The cave houses are a delight in summer, when we were there. They are very cool. It’s a luxury to take a nap there. They are really peaceful and you can sleep like a baby. The price is truly good and not expensive at all. There’s no doubt we’ll repeat again!

The service provided by the staff is excellent, especially Manolo, who takes pleasure in suggesting which places should be visited in the region and offering the local gastronomy in his restaurant. Here you can eat just great. It is necessary to taste the local wines.

La ubicación es fantástica, suficientemente apartado como para ser un sitio tranquilo y relajante pero bien comunicado (la autovía está a cinco minutos). El trato del personal es excelente! Un diez para ellos.

Llevo unos cuantos años visitando las casas cueva del Tío Tobas. Enclavadas en un entorno natural increible, muy cerca del puerto de la Ragua, casi siempre con nieve, disponible para pasar un buen día con la familia. Habitar la casa cueva es una experiencia increible por temperatura y tranquilidad, realmente se goza del descanso. Chimenea para hacer barbacoa divina, en especial para los que somos de ciudad. El personal dispensa un trato siempre cercano y entrañable, dan muestra de su cercanía y confianza con sus clientes. Puestos a encontrar un pero, diría que las cuevas precisan de un mejor mantenimiento: cerraduras que cuesta de sacar la llave, puertas que cierran con dificultad, grifos duros…
Sin ninguna duda seguiré repitiendo un par de veces cada año.

Maravilloso, el cuidado de las cuevas, el entorno, y el trato humano! Nos llevaron a pasear en burro, tiro con arco en el bosque, siempre con una sonrisa. Recomendable 100% y calidad precio un diez. Mucha gracias.

Hemos ido para disfrutar de la nieve con niños en el Puerto de la Ragua… Y la verdad es que hemos disfrutado mucho. Estuvimos en la cueva 18, y genial, super chula, muy bien decorada, con todos los servicios. Nos dejaron un calefactor, había un radiador en la habitación, nos pusieron dos camitas para las niñas en la habitación. La cocina bien equipada y lo mejor, la chimenea con su leña al lado… una experiencia estupenda.

Nunca estuve en una cueva, pero esto es un hotel bajo la tierra en toda regla. Fantástico. Una temperatura excelente y una decoración acogedora. La chimenea nos dio un ambiente de tertulia fenomenal. Recomiendo este alojamiento por lo acogedor y bien decorado que está.

We have come to enjoy the snow in Puerto de la Ragua with our children… And the truth is that we have enjoyed ourselves very much. We stayed in cave n.18 and great, really fancy, very well decorated, with all the facilities. They gave us a heater, there was a radiator in the room, they arranged to little beds in the room for the girls. The kitchen was well equipped and the best thing, the fireplace just with the firewood next to it… It was a marvellous experience.

Las cuevas están muy bien, decoración, limpieza, atención del personal de diez. Lo que más nos a gustado es la tranquilidad que se respira, ideal para desconectar.

La mejor opción para alojarse de la zona. Perfecta para parejas o familia. El trato del personal es excelente. La ubicación es perfecta porque si buscas tranquilidad basta con disfrutar de la experiencia que te ofrece dormir en una cueva, la piscina, la calidad del entorno y un magnífico restaurante. Aunque si te quieres mover, no puedes dejar de visitar Guadix, el castillo de la Calahorra o las minas de Alquife. Y encima un precio estupendo. 100% recomendable.

I have been staying in the cave houses of Tío Tobas. Enclosed in an incredible, natural environment, very close to Puerto de la Ragua, almost always with snow, available to spend a nice day with your family. Live in the cave house is an amazing experience due to its temperature and peace, you can really relax yourself. The fireplace is wonderful to have a barbeque, especially for those that come from the city like us. The staff always treat us in a close, kind way, as they show their courtesy and trust to clients at all times. Were I to be asked to find a flaw, I would suggest that the caves need a better maintenance: there are keyholes that it is difficult to pull keys out of, some doors do not shut properly, there are hard taps… Without the slightest doubt, I will keep coming back a couple of times a year.

We stayed in a two-bedroom cave and really loved it. The average temperature is 64ºF, and you are provided with all facilities: a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen and rural-style bathroom. I would recommend my own persona experience of keeping quiet and look at the stars while being lying on the hill on top of the cave roof. It’s a spectacular, unique sensation.

La chimenea muy agradable, hacía años que no disfrutaba de ninguna. El silencio en la cueva increíble, se duerme de maravilla. El personal muy amable en todo momento.

Nos hemos alojado en el fin de semana y además de ser preciosas, son realmente confortables! Tienen todo tipo de comodidades y son estupendas para pasar unos días de campo (o de lo que uno quiera). Tienen cocina totalmente equipada por lo que se puede optar por llevarse comida, aunque recomiendo ir a comer al Mesón Restaurante Tío Tobas, que evidentemente está justo al lado y está todo buenísimo!!! El trato personal es magnífico.

It is worth spending a couple of days here and get to know the region of Guadix, with surprising landscapes combining the desert, the vegetation and the snow at the foot of Sierra Nevada.

I went with my significant other and were given a bigger cave, so we got both surprised and delighted. We were also given two boxes with wood, which was more than enough for the two nights we spent here, no noises and with all the facilities, a fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom… and the master room just a wonderful thing. There are routes you can do. I recommend the one called “the route of the chapels”.

The cave are really good, decoration, cleaning, outstanding attention from the staff. The thing we have liked most is the tranquillity in the air, perfect to get away.

The location is fantastic, remote enough to be a peaceful, relaxing place but easily accessible (the highway is just five minutes away). The treatment of the staff is excellent! This is a ten out of ten for them.

This is the best option to stay in the area. Perfect for couples or a family. The staff treatment is excellent. The location is also perfect, because if looking for peace it’s enough just by enjoying the experience of sleeping in a cave, the pool, the quality of the environment and a terrific restaurant. However, if you decide to explore the region, you need to visit Guadix, the castle of La Calahorra or the mines of Alquife. And, on top of that, a splendid price. 100% advisable.

I had never been in a cave, but this a proper underground hotel. Fantastic. An excellent temperature and a cosy decoration. The fireplace provided us with an amazing atmosphere of social gathering. I recommend this accommodation due to its cosiness and nice decorations.

This is the ideal place to get away in front of a fireplace, rest from the stress of the city in their quite, cosy, rural caves, which are filled with details. There are an endless number of activities to do in the area, such as getting lost among its castles or incomparable views to Sierra Nevada. The staff make you feel at home.

We spent three nights and four days in the cave houses of Tío Tobas. The house we were assigned was up to expectations (spacious, comfortable and with a comfortable, big bathroom, which was comfortable to bath the girls). The service at the reception was splendid and so was in the restaurant. Not only did it offer some extraordinary and well-served dishes, but also a close, professional treatment. If I had to go again to this region, I would not even doubt.

Todo, el restaurante muy bien atendido por profesionales muy amables y atentos, ofrece una gastronomía autóctona de excelente calidad.

Merece la pena alojarse unos días aquí y conocer toda la comarca de Guadix, con paisajes sorprendentes que combinan desierto, con vegetación y nieve, a los pies de Sierra Nevada.

Me ha encantado la experiencia de dormir en una cueva. El silencio es total y el entorno perfecto para descansar.

Magnífica atención de los empleados y sobre todo de Manolo, que disfruta recomendando los lugares a visitar dentro de la comarca y ofreciendo en su mesón la gastronomía de la zona. 
En el Mesón se come fenomenal, indispensable probar los vinos de la tierra.

I’ve just loved the experience of sleeping inside a cave. The silence is complete and the environment is the perfect one to rest.

It is wonderful the care of the caves, the environment and the human treatment! We were taken to ride on a donkey, we practiced archery in the forest, always with a smile. 100% advisable and ten out of ten for the quality-price ration.
